Considerations and reflections on anti-racist allyship within the ending violence against women and girls sector.

The briefing paper draws on Imkaan’s work with our members, our own experiences of being a small, Black and minoritised women’s organisation and the work of social justice activists and thinkers. This briefing paper provides an opportunity for the ending violence against women and girls sector to explore what is anti-racist allyship.

As with our previous briefings, this is not a ‘how-to’ guide or an in-depth research piece. This briefing paper has been written with a view to provoke thought, discussion and conversation within organisations and between individuals. Hopefully this will help to strengthen our anti-racist approach as a sector, and help us to create a more equitable society and world.

About Ascent

Ascent is a partnership project undertaken by the London Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Consortium, delivering a range of services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, under six themes, funded by London Councils. The second tier support project aims to address the long term sustainability needs of organisations providing services to those affected by sexual and domestic violence. The project seeks to improve the quality of such services across London by providing a range of training and support.
